Trust SharePoint 2010 to change its own password service accounts

Tags: , , , , , ,

Every user in my company has to change his password every three months. And they can’t use a previous password for at least five time changes. This is a normal setup. How about service accounts? A Server Admin will tell you not to mess around with service accounts password. The service account is a critical account and it must be treated as an important member of the organization. Well, SharePoint 2010 offers now a functionality that will improve the security: Automatic Password Change for service account.

So no need to setup a none expiration policy on the service account. SharePoint 2010 can handle the notification and change the password for a new one without problem. Thus, the SharePoint 2010 setup will be more secure and no one in the company will have to worry about password policy for these accounts.

The complete procedure is on the TechNet Site.
